A Rose by Any Other Name

Brenda Myree • Jesus Christ
Have you ever thought about what is in a name? How about the name of Jesus. What does it really mean to use the name of Jesus? It doesn't matter by what name you call Him because He is who He is. A rose by any other name is still a rose!

A ROSE BY ANY OTHER NAME

What's in a name?  According to Webster's, name means a word or words by which someone is designated, called or known; reputation, distinguished; authority, power, identity.  In biblical times, a name represented who a person was.  An example of this was Isaac which means laughter.  Also, Jacob - meaning trickster.  God also had to change Abram's name to Abraham meaning father of many nations so that when he heard his name called, he caught the vision of who he was supposed to be.

In Philippians 2:6-11:

6.  Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God;
7.  But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8.  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9.  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given Him a name which is above any name:
10. That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11. And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Jesus was given the Name - the designation, the reputation the distinction, the authority and power above everything!!  He was given this name because He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.  I could really do another whole article just on becoming obedient unto death!  See my previous article on Fuel for the Fire

Jesus has given us His Name.  Jesus states in John 14:13-14 that if we ask anything in His name or His authority, we will receive it!   When a person gives you a power of attorney, he is giving you the authority to use his name to perform certain, specific, predetermined actions.  An example of this would be the authority to purchase property, make other purchases, payments, accessing their bank accounts, etc. using their name and their authority just as though you were that person.  It is just as though the person was performing these actions themselves!

In the same way, Jesus has given us His Name.  The name that is above all names.   The name that has authority over everything in heaven, on the earth or beneath the earth.  That at the name or authority of Jesus, every knee must bow.  Every situation, circumstance, power or principality, anything that has a name must bow at the authority of Jesus which He has given to you!

Jesus is known by many other names.  We call Him master, savior, prince of peace, the Lamb of God, the Lamb that was slain from the foundations of the earth, the Amen, King of Kings and Lord of Lords and much more.  But what does Jesus say about himself?  In Revelation 1:8 He says He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty!  Jesus was in the beginning.  He is in the present (which is), the past (which was), and the future (which is to come), all at the same time!  Jesus was before time and He will be when time is no more.  He repeats this again in Revelation 21:6 & 22:13 stating that He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.  In Revelation 19:11, He is called Faithful and True.  In verse 12 it states that He has a name written that no man knows but Himself!  There is still a name yet to be revealed!  There is still another part of Him we yet have to see!  It continues in Revelation 19:13 that His name is called The Word of God!  According to John 1:1, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.  Jesus, the Word, was made flesh and dwelt among men.  Jesus was among men and they missed God altogether!

In Matthew 28:18 Jesus says, "All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth."  He has given us His power!  Colossians 2:9, 10 says that, "In Him (Jesus) dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.  And ye are complete in Him which is the head of all principality and power."   The fullness of the Godhead is in Him and we are complete in Him.  Let me explain this word "in".  In means to be one with.  That if we are in Him and He is in us, the lesser (us) takes on the identity of the greater (Him).  "In" also means to become assimilated - absorbed, adapted, adjusted, to become converted, to be conformed (as into the image of His dear Son).  This means in thought, word and deed - in action, our bodies become the body of the greater!  Can you get this?  We give up our body (a living sacrifice - Romans 12:1) so that He may be manifested in us.  To be "In Him" means to become identical with that which you are absorbed by!

How great is that?  Once we realize that we are In Him and are absorbed into Him, all that He is and all that He has is at our disposal.  We have His Name, His word, we have His blood, His Holy Spirit, we have His power, His authority, His dominion and power.  We have His name or authority over all principalities and powers, over all situations and circumstances!  At the name/authority of Jesus which He has given to us, every knee (every name that is named [Ephesians 1:12] whether it be debt, poverty, sickness, disease, situations and circumstances, demonic influences, you name it!) must come subject and into alignment with the Word!  They must become subject to the authority of Jesus.  Again, this is more than just ending a prayer "in Jesus' name".  It means using His authority to speak to the mountain so that it moves out of the way.  (Mark 11:23-24).  We have His authority to speak to whatever the situation or circumstance is and it must bow its knee to that authority.  Sickness and disease must submit and leave, debt must be cancelled, poverty must leave, demonic influences must submit and leave!  How can you beat that?  There is no other name whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12).

So, what's in a name?  Everything!  And even though He may be called by many names, the authority and power in the Name of Jesus still saves, delivers and sets free.  A rose by any other name is still a rose!
