I Am the Resurrection and the Life
Brenda Myree • Jesus Christ
John 11:25: "Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live."
As I read and meditated on this scripture God reminded me of all the different things in my life that He had resurrected and brought back to life. What am I talking about? Dreams, ideas, passions, desires and purpose. As a young person, I had some big dreams and vision. Some things I wanted to accomplish in this life but it seemed as I got older, things would happen that would take me in a direction I did not want to go. People would say things or do things that would discourage me. The seeds, the desires and the purpose God had put inside me seemed to be dying. Discouragement set in. I became disillusioned. My life seemed to take a totally different direction than what I had dreamed.
Have you ever reached the point where you felt that you have lost direction? Well, Jesus can get you back on track. Those things (desires, dreams, visions, relationships) that you thought had died, He can bring back to life.
In Romans 4:16 (NIV) we see that God gives life to dead things and calls those things that be not as though they are!
16Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham's offspring-not only to those who are of the law but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all. 17As it is written: "I have made you a father of many nations." He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed-the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were.
It continues in Romans 4:20-21:
20Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.
You Must be fully persuaded in your own heart and mind that God is able and has the power to do what He has promised you. That the Word He has spoken to you, the dreams, visions and desires He has put in your heart will come to pass. It says in Matthew 12:24:
I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.
Somtimes those dreams and visions have to die in order for God to give them new life so you are in a better position be bear more fruit. I have found many times that once I have given God the opportunity to breathe new life into a situation it is better than it was before. I become more fruitful, there is greater life. Sometimes it has been necessary for dreams and visions to die in order for God to see your heart. Have you been seeking the dream and vision or have you been seeking Him? Sometimes we have to sacrifice our "Isaac" before the promise is fulfilled. Abraham was told he would be the father of many nations but it was only after he was obedient in his willingness to sacrifice his "only" son, his son of promise, Isaac, that the prophetic word of him becoming the father of many nations was actually activated. We must be willing to be obedient to God even if it means that for a time we have to lay down our dreams only to have Him bring them back to life in His time... when we are maybe more mature and in a position to bring forth much fruit.
God is able. I have seen Him move in too many situations. Mine as well in the lives of others. I have seen dreams and visions come back to life and flourish, I have seen relationships restored. Jesus is the resurrection and the life!
